GERC Consultation Service

Every child is unique, and even siblings can differ greatly in personality and abilities. Techniques some other parents find effective in developing their children’s talents may be counterproductive with yours.

Let our academic director help you understand your children and recommend specific strategies to help you develop their potential. Dr. Juliana Tay holds a PhD in Educational Studies (Gifted Education) from Purdue University and has worked with high-ability children from all over the world. Click here for a sample of the report.

How can a consultation session help me with my children?

For the trial consultation, we will discuss with you some of the issues that you are facing with your child and provide simple strategies that can mitigate the situation.

If you would like a more detailed understanding of your children and their potential for high-ability, book a online consultation session. We will look through some of your children’s academic and non-academic work to understand their unique characteristics and provide suggestions on how to help them develop their potential. We will also address any concerns you may have with your children, such as attitudes toward learning, behaviours, and motivation.

For a more holistic view, we will recommend a home consultation session, where we learn more about your children’s daily interaction and routine. Studying your children’s day-to-day behaviour will allow us to provide recommendations on how to structure their routine and provide them with the environment they need to develop their talents.

What happens during a consultation?

Depending on the parental concerns, different types of activities will be carried out. Typically, consultations involve asking parents and/or caregivers questions to understand more about the child, as well as asking the child questions and observing his/her responses.

We will also look into the school and enrichment work to determine the child’s engagement in the learning process. For the onsite session, the interaction between the child and the home environment will also be reviewed. After the session a summary and recommendations will be shared with you.

What am I expected to do after the consultation session? How soon can I see results in my children?

After the consultation session we will provide an summary of actions you can take to help your children develop their potential. This may involve modifying your daily interactions, changing their home routine, and/or exposing them to a different set of activities. The children may initially resist some of these changes (such as reducing their screen time) but we will also provide you with methods to help them adjust to the new normal.

Progress is dependent on your child’s current abilities and learning attitude. Hence, we are unable to give a definite time frame within which to expect a certain level of progress. We recommend a half-yearly follow-up remote session unless there are exceptional circumstances (change in home environment, significant drop in school performance, etc.).
